Zeke
Born and raised in East Tennessee, Zeke brings a strong work ethic, steady leadership, and a craftsman’s eye to his role as owner of Freedom Roofing.
He began his career as a finish carpenter — where precision isn’t optional and quality is non-negotiable. That foundation shapes everything he does today. For Zeke, roofing isn’t just a trade. It’s a craft.
Known for high standards and calm under pressure, Zeke leads every project with integrity — whether he’s directing crews or personally overseeing the details that most people never notice but always feel.
Outside of work, Zeke enjoys skeet shooting, spending time outdoors, and volunteering weekly at church. He’s been married to Grace for nearly 10 years. His commitment to faith, family, and hard work isn’t a tagline — it’s just how he lives.
Kevin
With over 30 years in the construction industry, Kevin has built a reputation that speaks for itself — trusted by homeowners, respected by the City of Knoxville, and relied upon by multiple insurance companies throughout his career.
Kevin has a detail-oriented approach and a steady hand to every project. He’s known for solving problems before they become headaches, doing the job right the first time, and making sure families feel informed and confident every step of the way.
For Kevin, a roof isn’t just a structure. It’s the thing standing between your family and everything outside — and that’s exactly how seriously he takes it.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys golfing, travel, church, and spending time with his wife Yvonne of 36 years and their family. His commitment to faith, family, and quality craftsmanship isn’t just what he does — it’s who he is.
Grace
Grace leads the marketing, social media, and day-to-day office operations for Freedom Roofing — telling the company’s story, showcasing their work, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Growing up with her father, Kevin, as a general contractor, Grace was introduced to job sites long before most people know what a soffit or gutter is. That background gives her something most marketing professionals don’t have — a genuine understanding of the work behind the work.
She brings that perspective into everything she creates, making sure Freedom Roofing’s message reflects not just what the company does, but who they are.
Outside of work, Grace volunteers weekly at her church and serves on the board of the FBI Knoxville Citizens Academy Association. Her commitment to faith, family, and community runs through everything she does — professionally and personally.
Yvonne
Yvonne works behind the scenes at Freedom Roofing, helping to build and support the foundation the company stands on today.
In the early years, Yvonne was regularly on job sites — delivering materials, solving problems, and doing whatever the day required. That firsthand experience gives her a perspective most people behind the scenes simply don’t have, and it shows in how she runs things.
Beyond the office, Yvonne’s commitment to community runs deep. She volunteers with CASA as a court-appointed special advocate for children in the juvenile court system, and is an active member of the FBI Knoxville Citizens Academy Association. She is also active in her church and treasures time with her family.
Yvonne’s faith, heart for service, and dedication to doing things right are woven into every part of Freedom Roofing’s story.
Honest Work, Family Values, Outstanding Results
“We hired Freedom Construction to replace the roof on an older home, and the experience was so positive that we later hired them again to replace the roof on another property as well.
One of the things that stood out immediately was their attention to detail and respect for our property. At the first house, we had goats, chickens, dogs, and other farm animals with access to the area around the home. Because of that, it was extremely important that no roofing debris, nails, or materials were left behind. The Freedom Construction team carefully laid down tarps, worked meticulously throughout the project, and did an excellent job with cleanup afterward.
What impressed us even more was Zeke Akins’ honesty and transparency. On our older home, there were some questionable areas around the chimney that could have required additional repairs once the old roof was removed. Zeke was upfront about what they might find and what potential costs could be involved. As it turned out, those repairs weren’t needed, and he was honest about that as well. Many homeowners would never know the difference, but Zeke’s integrity gave us complete confidence in his recommendations.
The second project involved an even more challenging situation. We discovered issues from previous work that had not been properly completed, including hidden damage, rot, and structural concerns that were impossible to fully assess until the roof was opened up. Freedom Construction took the time to explain our options, answer our questions, and help us make informed decisions about the best way to move forward.
We also had a unique roofing project on a small addition underneath a deck. Other roofing companies either refused to do the work, wanted to remove the entire deck first, or quoted extremely high prices. Zeke was able to bring in a crew with the specialized skills needed to complete the job correctly without unnecessary expense or disruption.
Perhaps the biggest reason I recommend Freedom Construction is how they handle challenges. During one repair involving fascia replacement on our front porch, the finished appearance wasn’t what we expected. I contacted Zeke, and rather than making excuses, he personally came out, reviewed the situation, and worked with his team to make it right. They corrected the issue, achieved the look we wanted, and did so without charging us extra. That level of accountability is rare.
Throughout both roofing projects, Zeke was consistently responsive, professional, and easy to work with. He kept us informed about scheduling, weather delays, material deliveries, and every step of the process. He even coordinated the replacement of a specialty door that had to be custom ordered and kept us updated throughout the entire process when manufacturer delays occurred.
